Thoughtful Gifting: From my family to yours

Thoughtful Gifting: From my family to yours

Here at Pott, we’re big fans of all things handmade.

If you’ve made something for someone you’re not just giving them a gift at face value, you’re gifting them hard work, time and attention – that thoughtfulness is something money can’t buy.

Gifting something handmade means there’s more joy for both parties, in both the giving and receiving. It’s the perfect time to reflect on your relationship, and all the good times you’ve had. One of the most precious gifts I’ve ever received is a watercolour sketch of one of my favourite views, drawn from a special time in my life.

This feeling of thoughtfulness and personality from handmade items has always stuck with me, and was one of the driving forces behind Pott. The Potts are all handmade by local artisans, with hand-poured wax scents, so they each have their own personalities. Each Pott is uniquely made just for you.

If you’re thinking of gifting handmade this Christmas, here’s an idea my mum makes every year. Thoughtful and delicious, it’s a definite crowd-pleaser and an easy place to start.

So, from my family to yours, enjoy!

Sloe Gin Recipe

In Derbyshire, where I am from, there are a lot of sloe berries, so every Christmas my mum gifts a batch of sloe gin to her friends, which she will have made a few months earlier (sloe berries ripen around October-November). It's so simple, but so thoughtful and I love that the sloes are local.

Ingredients
300 gram sloe berries
150g white sugar
75cl gin (mums top tip: don't spend money on a fancy gin, as they usually have a more botanical flavour which will distort the flavour of the sloes!)

Dissolve the sugar in the gin in a kilner jar, by shaking the jar. Add the slow berries and shake some more. Shake every day for a week and then store in a cool dry place for 2-3 months. Seive the mixture and decant into beautiful little bottles, tie a ribon on and a name tag and voila!

The sloes will deepen in flavour over time, so its best to make it well in advance!
