]]>Lavender essential oil is known for its health benefits, research has shown that Lavender can reduce anxiety, reduce headaches, help reduce insomnia and has calming properties. Plus the herb has anti-inflammatory properties, which can help to heal minor burns and bug bites.
All those benefits make Lavender scented candles a great choice for wellness and self-care but our favourite reason to try a Lavender scented candle is the beautiful Lavender aroma they provide when lit.
Our aromatic Lavender scented candle is infused with hints of Clary Sage, Chamomile and Geranium entwined with refreshing notes of Bergamot. All of our candles are hand poured, made from 100% Coconut and Rapeseed oil, infused with completely natural essential oils and sustainable fragrance oil to give them their beautiful aromatic scent. The standard size have a 60 hour burn time but the best thing about our candles is that once you've finished you can purchase a Lavendula candle refill. If you'd like to try something new, we have a variety of 11 different scented refills to choose from for your next scent.
Tonka beans come from the tropical rainforests of Central and parts of South America. They are harvested from the Dipteryx Ordorata tree commonly referred to as Camaru or Brazilian teak. Once picked they're cured and dried, taking on the appearance of black, wrinkled bean about the size of an almond.
Tonka is a complex scent of wood and spice with undertones of tobacco that can lend a creamy, warm element to the fragrance composition. Tonka is commonly used as a base note in perfumed products and gives a warm and welcoming aroma. The Tonka bean scent is often compared to Vanilla, which makes sense as Vanilla is also part of the gourmand fragrance family.
Tonka was one of the very first scented candles we launched. It is a much loved fragrance across the whole Pott community and we can understand why! It's sweet, warm scent is almost like a big hug and gives the most beautiful aroma. It's the perfect fragrance to have in a candle or diffuser, particularly during the colder months of the year. We offer the Tonka fragrance across our full range, from petite, standard and grand candle refills to diffuser oil.
Our Tonka candles consist of creamy Tonka mixed with earthy patchouli and woody cedar. They're all hand poured, made from 100% coconut and rapeseed oil, infused with completely natural essential oils & sustainable fragrance oil to give them their beautiful scent. They (standard size) have a 60hr burn time. The best thing about our candles is, once you've finished, you can purchase a Tonka candle refill or, if you'd like to try something new, we have a variety of 11 different scented refills to choose from for your next refill.
Similar to our Tonka candles, our fragranced diffuser oil is made up of 100% natural essential oil and fragrance oil to give a creamy warm aroma of Tonka mixed with earthy patchouli and woody cedar.

We're so pleased Forbes was able to recognise Pott for being a sustainable brand, supporting local artisans and creating beautiful handmade products.
"I started candle making during the pandemic as a form of escapism (my version of banana bread!). I grew frustrated at the number of empty candle jars I had lying around and wondered why refillable candle jars were not more prominent. I decide to pursue my hobby and see where it would take me. (Swipe to see launch day pic!)
Since launching Pott the main focus has been on a sustainable refill model, handmade products and supporting local artisans.
It’s incredible for Forbes to recognise a business like Pott in their list, and shows the importance and growing trend towards handmade, local and sustainable products." Founder - Ailis Topley
We can't thank those of you who continue to purchase Pott candles, like, follow us on social media and sign up to our newsletter enough. Every one of you who have supported us in one way or another has lead Pott Candles to be where we are today and we couldn't be more grateful for your support.
]]>At this time, the pottery industry in Stoke is unfortunately on the decline. Many famous factories have been struck by difficult times due to the inability to compete with the foreign prices of ceramics, which has consequently lead to many lay offs and in worse cases, factories being forced to close. "Royal Doulton announced in February that it was moving its Royal Albert brand to Indonesia, closing one of its three remaining Stoke factories and making 500 potters redundant. It was the latest in a slew of factory closures that have reduced ceramics employment in the Potteries from 45,000 in 1975 and 23,000 in 1991 to 13,000 today." - The Guardian
We have been up regularly recently and it is a magical place - it houses some of the biggest and well-known potteries in the world.
The city is a pottery-lovers theme park. Anything pottery related you can find there (they even have pottery themed roundabouts!) There are so many pottery related activities to do in Stoke such as visiting the Gladstone Pottery Museum, getting hands on and taking part in a pottery making class or even going on a factory tour around Middleport pottery factory.
The people are really friendly - we received such a warm welcome wherever we went
I came away feeling energised by the pottery world but also deeply sad that it is in decline.
We are making a commitment to source products and use potteries in Stoke-on-Trent as much as possible to keep the art of pottery alive in the place of its origin. We're delighted that we have a few new potters joining us from Stoke in the near future.
We have been working with a fabulous potter in Northern Ireland called Adrian who helped us bring The Lac collection to life, we wanted each Pott from 'The Lac' to be unique and the only one of it's kind. The beauty is in the unknown with ceramics, it's often a bit of an experiment when it comes to using new glazes, we glazed 'The Lac' collection in the exact same glaze mixture and depending on where each Pott was positioned in the kiln impacted how each individual Pott came out. The easiest way to understand a kiln is to think of it as an oven, with the top getting hotter than the bottom. This difference in heat makes the glaze react in different ways, forming very unique differences to each Pott.
When making pottery there are so many factors that can change the look and feel of an object which is what we wanted to demonstrate in this collection, that there is beauty in the unique differences. We really didn't know what to expect when we opened the kiln but we were so pleased with the results and the colours looked beautiful. We numbered each Pott so all of you could tell which piece of the collection you now own and we were SO thrilled with the most amazing reaction to the collection, I was extremely nervous that you wouldn't all like the Pott's you receives but fortunately that didn't happen and we've only had positive feedback!
We have a few piece of The Lac collection remaining, which you can purchase here

Thanks so much for sitting down with us Bianca, i'd love to hear a bit about how Bable began?
I am a primary school turned candle painter. My business started completely organically and unintentionally but, it is the best thing I have ever done. Last summer I shared a photograph on Instagram of a single candle that I painted, and before I knew it, I was getting so many messages from people asking if they could purchase my candles. I couldn’t believe it! Since then I have gone onto quit my job, paint 1000’s of candles that have been sent all around the world, I have had a pop-up in Selfridges and now I have started to host sell out candle painting workshops.
Wow, that's very impressive! You have so many beautiful designs, if you had to choose a favourite (aside from our Duck & Daffs!), which one is your favourite design to date?
I love the shrimp candles that I painted in collaboration with Beth from Studio B fashion. They are so quirky and really different but still elegant. They remind me of the seaside and holidays, who wouldn’t want that?
It sounds like you have worked with some amazing brands, what's been your favourite Bable moment so far?
Honestly, there have been so many. I still get excited over every email I receive and every opportunity that comes my way. Sometimes I have to pinch myself that I have managed to leave my stable job and run a craft business that has been stocked in Fortnum and Mason, it just blows my mind. I also find it very surreal when people notice me on the street and approach me and say “are you the girl that paints the candles”, when that happened the first time I nearly cried!
Yes, I can imagine that must have been a bit surreal! Your latest candles and the beautiful candles you hand-painted for us scream Spring - what's your favourite thing about Spring?
I absolutely LOVE spring. I am big into flowers and I just love seeing the flowers start to bloom and the trees full of blossom. Plus we get to wear gorgeous long floral dress and go for drinks in beer gardens.
Sounds dreamy! Easter is fast approaching - you are Queen of beautiful tables, i'd love to know what your top tips would be for anyone wanting to create a beautiful Easter tablescape this year? For Easter, it is all about the pastel tones and springy seasonal flowers. It is a table that you can really have fun with, you could even bring it outside and do a little alfresco dining.
My five top tips would be:
1. Less is more - try not to over crowd your table. I would opt for a couple of Easter related props, such as the salt in an egg cup, fold your napkins like bunny ears and if you’re doing place setting add a small Easter illustrations.
2. Tulips are ideal - For the flowers, it is fun to use a range of pastel tones, tulips are great for this and cheap too! You can even flex some of their petals back to add a little drama. Blossom branch’s on tables look fab too!
3. Use candles to add personality - Candles always make a table look special. My painted candles of course are a must! They add a little personality to the candles and are great fun.
4. Have fun with colour - Your Easter table should be fresh, light and bursting with colour. It is not a formal event where everything needs to be uniformed and matching. Mix and match the table cloth and napkins and use the coloured glass wear.
5. Go all out - Lastly get out the best china and that favourite bowl, life is too short to keep it safe in the cupboard!
Thanks so much Bianca, i'll definitely be keeping these tips in mind! I love the tulip idea - genius!
If you'd like to purchase some of Bianca's Ducks & Daffs, you can do so here. Or if you'd like to explore her whole range, here is a link to her website.
My top tip - The Ducks look great with The Lac dinner candle holder, a little bit like the Ducks are paddling in The Lac!
]]>1. The deep Spring clean
There is something about cleaning, sorting and decluttering your home that is just so therapeutic and leaves you feeling like you have your life put together. We suggest getting rid of anything that doesn't serve a purpose in your home any longer giving you more free space to enjoy, we also suggest organising your cupboards and wardrobes and lastly deep cleaning every crevice in your home with eco friendly cleaning products.
2. Filling your home with a fresh Spring scent
Who said candles had to be a Winter thing?! One of our favourite things to do in Spring is treat ourselves to a fresh scented Spring candle to fill the room with glorious fragrance as well as setting the scene for a peaceful ambience in your home. We have launched 3 new Spring scents, which are perfect for a little cleansing! I would also suggest Orangery and Basil - they were made for this time of year.
3. Bring the outdoors In
Throw open your windows and let the fresh breeze of Spring stream in, this really helps air our soft furnishings and refresh your rooms. Also bring in fresh flowers, they can really elevate a room there's so much you can do with your furniture, with plants and flowers they allow you to add pops of colour and different textures to your home.
4. Switch up your cushions & light furnishing
Changing the covers on your soft furnishings is a really easy way to change the atmosphere in a room and give it a softer spring-y feel.
5. Spring table scapes indoors and out
Table scaping is something we love to do, with Spring here we love to decorate our tables with beautiful fresh cut flowers, ceramic candle Pott's, stick candles, neutral tones, light fabrics and soft textures.

We also chose it because it’s 100% natural, and to be honest, we just wanted something fresh after Christmas. We’ve spent the last few weeks eating too much, and not moving nearly enough, so we knew a fresh new scent would spring us into action, and get us ready for the new year. And just because we wanted to keep the Christmas spirit going a little bit longer… we’ve mixed it with clove.
This scent also means a lot to me personally. I used to live in Australia, and one of my favourite memories is walking through eucalyptus forests, searching for koalas. Now every time I smell eucalyptus, I’m instantly transported back to that unforgettable time in my life – the joy of spotting a koala all happy in its natural habitat just made my heart so full, so I wanted to share that feeling with all of you.
Did you know that eucalyptus has a range of health benefits?
When burning, the candle’s scent will diffuse across the room, meaning you’ll breathe in all the natural ingredients, and get all the benefits of an aromatherapy session from the comfort of home.
- Got a January cold? Eucalyptus is widely used as a cold remedy!
- Feeling frazzled in the new year? Hang some eucalyptus in the shower, so the next time you’re in there, it’ll react with the steam and create a dreamy spa experience *and relax*
- Experiencing joint pain? Eucalyptus can ease it
- Tired of being pestered by insects? Eucalyptus repels them

If you’ve made something for someone you’re not just giving them a gift at face value, you’re gifting them hard work, time and attention – that thoughtfulness is something money can’t buy.
Gifting something handmade means there’s more joy for both parties, in both the giving and receiving. It’s the perfect time to reflect on your relationship, and all the good times you’ve had. One of the most precious gifts I’ve ever received is a watercolour sketch of one of my favourite views, drawn from a special time in my life.
This feeling of thoughtfulness and personality from handmade items has always stuck with me, and was one of the driving forces behind Pott. The Potts are all handmade by local artisans, with hand-poured wax scents, so they each have their own personalities. Each Pott is uniquely made just for you.
If you’re thinking of gifting handmade this Christmas, here’s an idea my mum makes every year. Thoughtful and delicious, it’s a definite crowd-pleaser and an easy place to start.
So, from my family to yours, enjoy!
Sloe Gin Recipe
What’s been your journey into illustration?
My parents are very creative, so I was encouraged to draw and paint from a young age. My mum would carry little sketchpads and paints on long walks and we’d stop and paint the views. I later studied and worked in design at branding agencies in London, but missed the creative outlet. When I had my first child, I started drawing again and had lots of local support so taught myself to illustrate more professionally.
What inspires your work?
Nature. Plants and flowers fascinate me and the beauty of it all makes it pretty easy to be inspired. But it’s also quite a spiritual thing for me too.
What’s your favourite part of the creative process?
Definitely the final product. I love seeing things come to life. Working by hand in brush pen and ink is a brilliant way to get quite fast results – I’m always so eager to see how the work turns out!
What advice would you give someone starting a creative business?
Find something that’s important to you and work from there. I’m a pretty tough client with myself, so I’d recommend setting deadlines every day (no matter how small) to keep you moving forward.
Tell us about the process behind the Pott Christmas bag design.
Working on the Christmas packaging was a dream come true. I started with reference imagery from the lists of ingredients, and I filled my sketchbook with drawings of each element. I later wove each piece together to create the wreath illustration, adding sprigs in the same way you would a physical wreath. I used a palette of greens to link back to the colour of The Holly to encapsulate the collection as a whole.
And finally, what do you love most about Christmas?
Christmas itself is lovely, but the build-up is so much better! The tree going up, the music, the films (I have a strange love for The Muppets Christmas Carol), the smells (I love a scented candle), the cosy afternoons and evenings, the drinks. Gosh... the lot!
Thanks Em, we've loved sitting down and finding out a little bit more about your world. If you want to learn more about Em, here is a link to her website.
]]>Christmas candles mean that winter is truly here, so our new The Holly range is perfect for evoking joyful memories. The scents of ‘Fir’ (a true Christmas tree scent) and ‘Noël’ (delicious notes of citrus and cinnamon) are as Christmassy as listening to ‘Last Christmas’ with a glass of mulled wine in one hand and a mince pie in the other.
The range features a new glaze (the perfect shade of holly-green, of course) as well as two new Potts: ‘Dinner Pott’, the ultimate decoration for any Christmas meal, and the ‘Grand Pott’, a 600g 4-wick beauty, along with the classic Standard Pott, Petite Pott and MatchPott.
Before I launched Pott, my pottery knowledge was limited, but over this past year, I’ve learned about what an incredibly skilled practice it is, and so I have an enormous amount of respect for our potters. When developing a new range, there are lots of stages, from rough direction, moodboards and initial glaze testing, to narrowing down the shade and perfecting the glaze performance. After we’d decided on the shade, we did about four more test runs to find the ideal consistency. When you open the kiln, you just know when you have found the perfect glaze and exactly what you are looking for.
We love supporting local artisans, so when it came to the packaging, our limited-edition Christmas range needed an artist’s touch to finish it off. I’ve followed Em from The Mossy Hill for a while, and knew that her striking yet simple designs were exactly what we needed. The designs are joyful and playful, and artfully inspired by our new scents.
This year, we want to spread the Christmas joy more than ever before (to make up for last year!), so we are offering 20% off our Christmas refills using code BURN at checkout. It is available for Fir and Noel in Petite, Standard and Grand size refills. Available until 21st December. Enjoy!
